Biography:
I was elected to represent the Hendon Ward in May 2010.  I am a former Chief Executive of an award-winning regional charity and now help to run a community interest company in the ward.  I have previously been a journalist, public relations practitioner, further education lecturer, teacher and assessor of adults undergoing learning in the community.  Since becoming a Councillor I have represented the Council on the Raich Carter Board, the Port of Sunderland Board, CHANCE Management Committee, Friends of Sunderland Museums (FOSUMS) and the Trafalgar Square Trustees, having previously represented the Council on Sunderland Orphanage Foundation.

I also represent the Hendon Ward on the Improving Lives Partnership (formerly the Hostels Working Group) and am a member of the East Area Committee, Health and Wellbeing Scrutiny Committee, the Joint Health and Wellbeing Committee (working with South Tyneside to scrutinise health bosses plans for hospitals in Sunderland and South Tyneside). I also serve on one of the city’s two adoption panels.

I hold a Ward Surgery every first Tuesday of the month between 4.00 pm and 5.00 pm at the Back on the Map hub in Villette Road, Hendon and the first Thursday of the month between 3.00 pm and 4.00 pm at CHANCE Community Project, Rickaby Street, East End.

You can also meet me at regular meetings of the various residents' groups across the ward.

As well as being a member of the Labour Party, I am also a member of the Co-operative Party.
