Councillor George Howe

I have lived in Sunderland for many years and was a candidate for Sunderland South in the general elections of 1987 and 1992. I am a graduate of the University of Toronto and Sunderland Polytechnic. Having worked in several countries of the Middle East and Canada as a Quality Control Engineer followed by several years as a teacher of English in Saudi Arabia. I returned to England in 1995 and eventually stood for Council in that year.  I was elected to represent the Fulwell Ward in 1996 and still have the pleasure in doing so.  I am married to Patricia, a former school teacher who is very active in a Women's Organisation working on the international scene, and we have two sons.

I am lead member on the Public Health, Well Being and Culture Panel overseeing the transition within the Health Service and in particular evidence collecting in patient and public engagement in the Health Service.  I am also a member of the Planning and Highways Committee and the Scrutiny Committee.

Councillor Bob Francis and myself hold a Ward Surgery in Fulwell Community Library, Dene Lane, between 10.00 and 11.00 am  first and fourth Saturdays of each month, bank holidays excluded.
